I've tried and it just won't focus.

Just gotta line things up and find the correct distance. It would be helpful to have a 3rd hand. This was taken with a. iPhone

Android El Cheapo smartphone here. And Steiner 10x binoculars.
Nokia E90 Communicator & Zeiss scope. I'm still using the 15 years old Nokia.
Not a scope but with my old android, I managed this with the Garand. I think the key is to find the line up/distance sweet spot and it'll focus in.
There are devices called digiscope adapters or brackets that allow you to use cameras or cell phones to take photos through a scope of various kinds.

Make sure the auto focus is turned off .
