.225 Winchester was a continuance off the old .219 Zipper.... itself made by neck-down of
.30-30 Winchester to .224” calibre.
To make .225 Win from. .30-30 basic, rim diam would need to be reduced from .506” to .473”.
There is also a slightly thicker rim on the .30-30 case, compared to that listed for .225 Winchester;
which would also need to be accommodated.

If you can find 25-35, they will reduce in neck diameter easier than 30-30. Reducing the rim on the 30-30/25-35 is the way. Reduce thickness from the 'front' edge so primer pocket is not affected and cut a slight groove for the extractor. Might need to anneal once or twice in the resizing process. 30-30 cheaper, 25-35 easier. Fireform, opinions vary, mild load, full load, I use 5-10 grains fast pistol powder, bullseye, HP38..., lube case like resizing, then fill case with corn meal, top with wax wad and fire for fill out.
Sounds like lots of work.
I was just wondering.
Someone is looking for some brass in the buy/sell.
I have some brass that has been formed into "I don't know what"
Looks like .22 bullet. Fat case. Kind of short.
I will see if I can dig them out.
They are easy to make from 30 30 if you have a lathe. If not they are a lot of work. I usually run them into a 6.5 die then a 243 die to reduce the neck before running them through the 225 size die. Then chuck them in the lathe to reduce the rim diameter and shave the front of the rim.

I agree with the lathe statement! And a lot of trial and error on where to thin and where/ to build an extractor groove. I've found 30-30 brass is easier than 25-35 (rim thickness consistency). Glad I found a hoard of brass, I love my 225 - but it was a bit of a headache to make brass.

I almost forgot, contact SSK industries. They use 225 Winchester brass for a lot of their <30 caliber cartridges as a base - enough that I'll bet Winchester makes special runs of it for them. I'm told they will sell it to you.
