    38-44 load tested

    I chronographed 10 shots this morning of a time honored 38-44 loading with Unique. For use only in heavy frame/357 Magnum revolvers only.

    6.0 grs Unique and 160 grs Lyman 358156GC crimped in bottom groove (loaded “long”) yielded 10 shot avg of 1,013 FPS in Ruger 4 5/8 BH. Pretty much approximates original “Super X” or “Hi-Speed” 38-44 loads of yesteryear with slightly heavier GC 358156. This is my sight in load for my Ruger 4 5/8 inch at 25 yds. Very good accuracy. I also mark the primers with red marker to denote a 38-44 loading.

    Sounds like a very good load. .38 or .357 Magnum brass? Standard or Mag. primer?
