Worth of a 1917 Edddystone sporterized?

I saw this at a local gunshop recently. It is in very good condition, blue fading to patina. It has all the metal work off the stock, and stock shortened to a sporter length. It has the buttplate removed and a ugly red pad added. The bore is bright and shiny, with sharp corners on the rifling, it is a 4 groove, I think. Has all the original sights. His first asking price is $250, should I buy it or not, I believe $200 will buy it.

If you need to get all the parts it's a roll of the dice. Wood is hard to find now, even repro. I'm not sure on the bands, screws and buttplate.

And when it's done it's a mixmaster. Good for shooting but not as much with collectors.

If you can get a good price on it, I say go for it. I'll agree parts might be a little hard to find. It may be a good shooter.

Back in my better days I would look for `Bubba` worked over Enfields like this to make into some very nice looking and shooting sporters. My favorite caliber for my rework job was the .338/06. I think $200 or less would buy it.Robert

I would buy it if I was in the market for an iron sighted 30-06.
Who am I kidding; I'd buy it anyway. Especially since it hasn't been dehorned and drilled and tapped.

I had a mark 5 lee enfield up for trade for an SKS. I finally put a price of $475 on it and expected...but never... got any offeres in it since I knew I had to be high. I figured i would have got and offer in the low threes, mid twos, but zilch.

The last complete 1917 actions i saw were 100$ by themselves, had been sandblasted and where badly pitted. So for 200$ I would probably already own it. I collected all the parts to rebuild an eddystone action I had for under 150$ but it took luck and 5 years. Stocks are the big hold up right now, most run 200$ or so if you can find one.
