I favor my older Sako Vixen .222 with Mannlicher stock.

I wouldn't kill for a Vixen in .222 but I think I might be willing to break a few legs for one of those precious little jewels. With a young wife and three little girls to feed and care for, I couldn't afford one when they were still being made. My only CF rifle back then was a homely and already old NRA/DCM 1903A3 .30-06 that I had restocked with Herter's semi-finished laminated wood; I mostly shot it with 200 gr. Lyman cast bullets (311299) to hold costs down. I still have it, a good rifle but it sure won't drive tacks.

In those days I knew an old NC mountain man who had a Vixen. He would let me shoot it at his home range. A straight factory rifle, regular stock, with a 3-9x Redfield hunting scope; it was both beautiful and incredibly accurate! I soon quit shooting paper targets and just amused myself by shooting out the four (about 3/8") thumb tacks holding the 100 yard targets up; it rarely took more than four shoots to do it.

I REALLY wanted one of those but .... ah well, ... as my movie hero once said, "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do." Enjoy your's doubly, once for my sake!

I would like a Vixen and had a couple of them. My walk around gun is a 722 Rem 222 cal / K6x.
One of my keepers because it was left to me by an uncle. It also is tack driver. I was with my uncle in late 50s when he traded a almost new Marlin 336 in 219 Zipper plus cash for it at gunshot. I didn’t like the trade and said so. I was about 8 and my opinion didn’t count and was told to shut up or go sit in car. The 219 would have been a class walk about rifle.

With the bipod legs down and the suppressor attached the balance point is right behind the bipod base.

I’ve killed a boxcar full of jackrabbits and and cottontails with this set up and that ancient 2.75X weaver scope is a whole lot more useful than a person would think.

I like my 1430-1433 Anschutz Hornet as a walk around rifle. It wears a 2-7 Leupold compact, very accurate , head shots only on edible game and the best part is the ammo carries almost as easily as rimfire.

Since the IMI Timberwolf is no longer available, I should think a Marlin 1894 or a Winchester 1894 would fit right in. Slim, light, adequate for most any varmint and cheap to feed.

My woods walking gun is actually an AR15 BO 10" pistol, loaded about 6# with 3x scope. Yea, could be lighter but eyes don't work with irons. Chronied 185gr & 170gr PB yesterday with magneto speed (50 yds). 13-1400 fps (185s didn't register) or carry 100gr hornady plinkers with 5 gr pistol power (fast and accurate but single pull). Just shot with bag under handguard so close to field shooting. Other choice would be marlin 22lr autoloader.

My "new" walk about rifle; Contender, 21" carbine barrel in 223. Using 2 loads; 55 gr Hornady SX over 25.5 gr AA2330 with WSR primers at 3150 fps or Lyman 225415 over 2.2 gr Bullseye with WSR primer at 1100 fps (sub-sonic).

My 25 year old Model Seven in .308. Nice for the Northern forest. 160 gr. gas checked and tumble lubed with 10 gr. of Unique or 16 of 2400.

I had to dig. Here’s a pic of my 1967’ 600 chambered in 243. I had a leupold 2x7 vx1 on it and switched it out with a 100th anniversary leupold 3x9 vx11 with ballistic aiming points. It’s lighter than my BB gun. It will put three shots all in the same hole with 90 grain ballistic tips loaded about 2 grains over max. Never tried any other load in in. The load that shoots good was loaded for my VLS that prints them just as tight. It shows zero signs of pressure with the load. I need to try some 55 grainers through it so I have a walk about Predator laser beam. I had a rifle basix trigger put in it years ago. If I remember right it’s around 1.5 pounds or so. I also acraglass bedded the action. She’s a tac driver. I bought a discontinued ram line stock for it but it added weight and bulk. The factory bedding was also screwy so I pawned it off. My buddy bought a twin to it the summer before last for $300 from his LGS so they are still to be had. One of these days I might have to hunt with it. Eventually I’ll buy a metal trigger guard for it but the way it shoots so good right now I don’t want to mess with it. I do like my LTR 223 as well. I have 40 grain Nosler Baltic tips flying at 3800 FPS out of it that group .3” at 200 yards pretty consistently when I do my part. It’s just to heavy for a walking rifle though.

For me it’s an 1894C. Light, handles extremely well and has plenty of capacity. I have a Ruger Ranch in 300 BLK. But once I put a red dot on it it’s not as compact. And follow up shots are not as quick since it’s bolt action. The 1894C will be the last rifle I sell if I decide to liquidate my collection.

This is mine, on many occasions. Other times it might be a 22 single shot or handgun of some type. Will always be something light pleasing to my eye while being nice in the hand.
