300 BLK Powder suggestions

Trying to find a load using 115 pc cast boolits. I've tried 4227 and 296. Neither one produces acceptable results for me. Anyone have different powder suggestions that work for them?

10.5 inch AR upper. Just not happy with the accuracy. Inconsistent groups 3" plus with flyers @ 50yds

Lil’Gun, Enforcer/A4100, and N-110 come to mind.

You might try Accurate #11FS. It is Win 296 but with a flash suppressant added. It’ll give you a little better case fill which may help.

Just curious have you mic’d the bullets?

1680 works for me

CFE Black and 1680 is what I have had the best luck. What are you sizing them too?

H110 works well for 150 grn boolits.
Have you slugged the barrel or cast the chamber?
Will the rifling support that weight boolit.
Are you getting leading?
are the boolits hard enough or too hard?

Let me see if I can answer all your questions.

Bullets are sized to .309

I have not slugged the barrel. Now I am only able to get the OACL to 1.955. These boolits are short. I crimp them just above the lube grove leaving them as long as I am comfortable with. I could probably load them a bit longer but there won't be much neck holding the booit.

There is no keyholing at 50yds. The boolits seem to be stabilized.

No leading as far as I can see. Seems to be clean as a whistle.

The boolits are 21 brindle or are listed as such. I normally cast Lee 155's (wheel weights) but these are pretty cheap so I would like to plink with them.

My best five shot group at 50yds bench rest 14gr IMR 4227 is 1.3/4". This is not the norm. Most groups are in the 2.5 to 3 plus area. Seems the hotter load the worse the groups get with this powder at least. I picked up a pound of Lil'Gun yesterday and will try it. I also have some CFE Black on the shelf to try. I have only used 4227 and 296 so far.
Is 1680 good for supersonic loads? I have read about using it on subsonic but so far I haven't seen anything about it for supersonic.

I am only using published powders that I can find. Most of the loading are under the starting charge. If I go the the starting loading and work up the groups are like a pattern.

1680 and CFE BLK are very similar powders, both made by St. Marks. They generate a lot of gas which help cycle AR’s at the lower pressure of a subsonic round. They are also fairly slow burning you can fill the case and you won’t come close to the SAAMI MAP with a heavier grain bullet.


I am not sure how well they will work for a supersonic load.

I think with that short OAL your gonna have accuracy issues with the large amount of jumpoff, I would try CFE Black I have had some success with this powder and it does seem to fill the case for most of my loads. Just my 2 cents

1680 works great for supersonic boolits. I have a pet load for 150 gr SP that chrony at 2000 fps without signs of excessive pressures. Main load I use in the mini 14.

GC on the cast? h110 is too fast, 4227 better but that is a high fps load. 9 gr cfe pistol works but doesn't cycle. 10-11 cfe black might work but will be dirty. Light bullets and slow powder don't always get you where you want, need pressure to burn right.
