I have had this trapdoor for over a year. It has nice blue fading to patina, a very nice bright bore with sharp rifling. It shot a good group, but I had to raise the Buffington sight up to get it to shoot to point of aim. The guy I got if off of had removed the pin in the front sight post, and put in a piece of copper with a tiny bead on it, to shoot 500+gr bullets with. I shoot mostly 350 HPs and 405's I mold myself. I decided I wanted get the regular sights shooting to point of aim. It was shooting about 8 inches low at 100yds. I looked at the sight in relation to point of impact, and buzzed off what I thought was right with a Dremel tool, and went back out to shoot it. Was about 2" low. A few strokes with a file, and it was shooting dead on. After dressing the side of the front sight, I took a brass hammer, and with a couple of taps, made a bead on the top of the front sight face. I then cold blued the copper, and put a drop of bright orange paint on the bead, followed by some clear coat when it dried. I later shot 3 shots, sandbagged at 100yds, into 1 3/4" group. Not too shabby for a 135 year old rifle, and 57 year old eyes.I am a happy camper. I plan to take a deer, or two with this rifle this year here in KY, limit myself to about 150-200yds. Just thought I would share.
