    What weight bullet for 454?

Just wondering what bullet weight and style everyone used for various applications. I am leaning towards a swc in the 300 grain range give or take 20 or maybe a wfn in the same range.
I am not looking for a max load more of a mid to upper mid loading for hunting to target. It is a SRH with 7 1/2” barrel. Thought I might save myself some time by learning from others experience.

I load a 300 LFN bullet for my FA 83 that is extremely accurate at 100 yds. The load is 28 gr /296 with a CCISRM. The load goes over the chrono at 1470 fps. Only shot one whitetail with this load and of course it was a pass through. Although, for hunting I switched to Matt's 350 gr WFN and load that one at 1360 fps. Definitely like the WFN more for the hunting end.

    270 to 300 are fine.

Did I ever mention that I hate to trim brass?

I've got a very good 280 grain LFN PB style mold that shoots good out of my 83, but my 300 LFNGC Accurate Mold just out performs it in accuracy. I've also settled on H110 for the 454, and I'm putting quite a bit of it below the 300 grain. It's impressive.

FWIW, I PC all of my cast bullets, and have tried a PBGC with the 280 grain bullet mentioned above. No leading or other issues, but if i wanted to shoot a lighter weight bullet at a lower velocity, I have a 45 Colt cylinder for that.

I've been tempted to go heavier, but for me, there is no need. The steel I shoot wouldn't be terribly impressed, and my hands wouldn't be too happy either. The 300 is fine.
