    Colt grip frame size

Does the Trooper MkIII and the Python share the same grip frame. I am looking for grips for a Trooper and find lots of Python grips, though none are identified as fitting the Trooper.

Thanks Dan, I finally found them on Houge's site, they do not interchange.

There's a lot of great history via Dan's link above.

    Thank You.

As above, they are not the same. The good news is factory MKIII stocks are a lot less than python stocks. The original trooper and python are interchangeable.

I "think" the python and new service grips interchange.

Tried swapping grips on my 1920 New Service .44-40 and 1957 Colt OP .38 Special. Close, but no cigar.

Uh no, kinda like Mia Farrow trying on Dolly Parton's bra.

No joy with New service. Python will interchange with: ,357; Old Trooper; Official Police; Army Special; Officer Models. I think that is it.
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the trouble with many shooting experts is not that they're ignorant; its just that they know so much that isn't so.

That was a well placed qualifier then
I seemed to remember having some rosewood finger groove grips from a Python that fit on my 1909 .45 LC. Maybe they were modified because they had a neat little window where the bottom forestrap sat flush with the front of the grip. I guess that's what I was thinking of.

I can verify that the old trooper does fit the Python.
