    Hi-Tek + BP lube?

I sell more and more boolits with Hi-Tek coating. Occasionally I get asked if I have boolits for black powder. Mostly 38 and 45 cal. I've never done black power shooting so this is not my field of expertise.

Does boolits coated with Hi-Tek work as is with black powder cowboy loads?

If not, would it work to put grease in the grooves with BP grease if they are coated? All my boolits has grease groove, coated or not.

    Thanks!

FWIW, I have PC'd bullets and then lubed them. In a comparison, just lube sized, PC, and then both using the same exact load, I couldn't call one vastly superior during the test.

My point is that there is no reason you cannot coat and then lube. As to using just coated bullets and black powder loads, personally I would want lube if I were shooting many shots.

My experience with black powder is in cartridge rifles and if i plan to shoot a string of shots, I either use a blow tube with grease groove bullets or wipe after every shot using paper patch.

No reason they shouldn't work (with lube). Lube is generally used with BP to try and control the fouling caused by BP, so it's not a good idea to shoot without some form of lube.

Why bother painting them when you are sizing and lubing?

Lot more steps to me but if you enjoy it go for it. I would not.
