Trials and tribulations of bullet moulds and evilbay.

I recently bought 2 bullet molds from 2 different sellers on evilbay. First mold came in packed very well, and the blocks were wired together with a bread loaf tie. Perfect, and casts very good boolits.
The 2nd mold came in it's original Lyman orange plastic box, mold blocks were placed in the box loose without any padding, bread tie, rubber band, nothing. Needless to say that the mold blocks beat against each other for the entire trip. Smoked the mold several times, used Kroil in the cavities, tried everything, but the mold would not drop the boolits. Finally Leemented the mold to see if that would help. Yay, success, finally.

Moral of the story: In the comments section of paymememepal include a note that mold blocks should be properly packaged for shipping. Common sense isn't very common. one small rubber band would have saved me several hours of frustration. Both the seller and I goofed up on this transaction.

Improper packaging is why I don't do ebay anymore. That, and a few other reasons.

I wouldn't doubt that fella is mad at e-bay to for sending him a buggered mold, not having the expertise to remedy the problem.

I bought a Ideal 4cav with handle from fleabay about 3-4 years ago. Came in a Priority Mail envelope, unpadded.
Mold was completely buggered up, beat to junk. Missed have been a Beautiful mold before it was packed.
I almost cried. Got a refund, but it wasn't worth it.

    Try buying arrows....

What I've resorted to,is a note to seller at the time of purchase about careful packaging. Stated in a way that doesn't make them feel defensive (for some strange psychological reasons?)...but puts the burden on the shipping company. Like,"our postal service can break an anvil, could you PLEASE pack my arrows (mould, instrument, tooling, etc) with this in mind". Works about 95% of the time.

I ordered a mold that came from Canada , the flat rate box looked like they had played hockey with it . Box had a hole in it and had leaked a few parts along the way and peened every edge . The fella had taken the mold all apart and used scotch tape to hold it to a piece of cardboard .

From then on I went after it like Shopdog said .

I too have been lucky, all mine either came from E Bay or MP molds in Slovenia.

When the term "Caveat Emptor" was coined I think they may have been talking about Evil Bay.

The only mold I have at present came from ebay. Was a new Lee still in the box. I will try again as a fact I am already looking.

I always put in the comments when paying how I want molds packed and the sellers risk if it doesn’t arrive as pictured. Only issue I ever had was a grab bag of items. Seller insisted on using one box when 3 flat rates would have worked great and cost less. That one box never made it.

I have bought many molds from flea bay and not had a problem. I am always leery of sellers with very low transaction counts too,
