    Resizing jacketed bullets

What, good and bad, would happen if I resize a jacket .224 to .223????
.001 doesn't sound like much. but I'm thinking it would make a difference.

Push through sizer and lube them. I guess the question is, why?

Don't make extra work for yourself.
Plenty of other people will do that for ya.

If it needs doing at all---The first 1/8th or 1/4" of the barrel will do that for you.

Do a few reduced powder loads and look for high pressure.
    Then go from there.

.001 of not much will happen. If you are shooting a very old .22 Hornet it might be worth it. I've sized many .227" Sisk bullets to .224" for deer bullets with no drama and good results.

I resize 338 jacketed bullets down to 329 for an 8 mm 95 Steyr I have with a Lee push thru sizer without any problem for the last 10 years! 1/1000 shouldn't be a problem!

    Yes, making Hornet bullets.
    But not for the Hornet.
    It's for a 5.7 Johnson.
    Barrel is for .223di bullets.
Hornet bullets are few and far between.

your only issue that you need to watch for is spring back, you may have to go to 222.5 to allow it to spring to 223 if the size is critical.

I size Hornady’s 70 gr HP 0.243 dia down to 0.228 dia to shoot in my Savage 22 HighPower. I run them through a lee push through sizer I had them make for me.

Back when I was in high school (and regional air carriers still flew DC-3s), I used to pull 7mm bullets from old, corroded South American milsurp and size them to .277 to load practice ammo for the .270 Win. that I used for everything from woodchucks to whitetail. Used a die made by the coach of my Boy Scout rifle team who was an industrial tool & die maker. Don't see any reason why swaging down .001 should be much problem.

abunaitoo, it will likely workout just fine, But I'd like to add one thing to what Rancher mentions...

Also...if the cores aren't 'bonded' to the jackets, the springback will be greater for the jacket, and less so for the core. While we are only talking .001", which is why I stated above, it will likely workout...There will almost likely be core/jacket separation, which may or may not be a concern.

PS, I moved your post to a better section
