As a devoted S&W addict, I am drooling! Pour you a few boolits and set that 45 in motion! You will never regret buying that piece of art. I am still wondering why in h*** I didn't buy an excellent 1917 U.S. 45 for $600 out the door. Still kicking myself!!

How many different models did S&W do that case hardened finish to?

Not sure. I'm just a 45 colt nut. I Know I've seen them in 44 Special, 45 ACP and 38 Special.

Now that I know they are out there in 38 special, I will have to keep an eye out for one.
Unlikely I will be able to afford it, but I would love to have one.

There was some reason that S&Ws were never case hardened before those special issue models. I recall an article but not the details- maybe steel composition compatibility or some such. They are certainly gorgeous.

If I remember right Smith only made 150 each of those I’ve got a 44 spl and just don’t have the heart to shoot it - but I’m close. Been in the safe for 18-20 years now
