    One arm job

I just found out that I need surgery on my shoulder. Two tendons are bad and need shortened and reattached. Doc said I will be off work for at least three months. Ouch! With a young family and all the associated bills, I need to earn a living during that time. Currently I am working as an airplane pilot, so working there with one arm is out of the question. Previous experience all involved both arms too, sawmill, heavy equipment operator, and airport worker. When I recover I hope to return to my current job of flying if my job is still there. So any suggestions on what I can do for a few months with one arm. Im willing to do pretty much anything to earn a paycheck and to keep busy.

No long term disability insurance form work? Not much you can do one handed... IT stuff requires fast typing... I ran my laser engraving business one handed... was a pain doing graphics but I got it done...

Does your outfit need a salesman, or anyone else that uses your brain more than brawn?

Is surgery required to be functional? Have you sought out a second opinion?

Slot machines, LOL! There is a casino in my town...

I work for a small company with 14 employees. Its the best job I've ever had and I love it. But we don't have any benefits besides a regular paycheck.

You should have access to FMLA.

Commercial driver; taxi, uber, CDL. I knew a fellow with half his right arm missing that had a CDL-A license. He drove a tractor-trailer hauling hazardous waste. He had a sense of humor, went by the name of Lefty.

With 14 employees, the employer is exempt. Long and short term disability on the private sector is generally cost prohibitive as well.

When I started having more problems with the MS and struggling more the plant I worked at kept me training apprentices and other things. Me and my apprentice would work on new line start ups and other projects. While your shop is only 14 people training and such may be an option. Another is if your employer is planning ant outside training then you might apply for it also. Another is inspection work.

3 months isn't that long. You will get through it. The lesson here is to have 6-12 months of living expenses saved. It seems difficult but when you get back to work , make it a priority in life.

I worked in a cabinet factory once, and things slowed down and I made a deal with the boss to take time off without pay and he would call me back to work when things picked up. I got 3&1/2 weeks off.
Ask your boss if you can quit for 3 months draw unemployment and come back when your ready to work.
    Just an idea.

Don't try to do more than rehab tells you to do. I've seen too many folks say they felt fine and did too much, too soon and have to go back and have the surgery done again. Do what the doctor and physical therapist say and nothing more, the first time.

You'll learn a lot using one arm. I only have use of my right arm.add in the use of a wheelchair. Your going to need a little help to get started with every day things like getting dressed tying shoes, you'll figure out a lot as you go.just don't use that arm until your told to trust me you'll know....
