41 Laser cast as slug in 410?

A friend of mine has gifted me all of his reloading stuff. Amongst other things, their are about 2000, 41 caliber laser cast slugs. I do not have a firearm in 41 caliber and my son wants to know if these are usable as slugs in a 410 shotgun? Also, are the 41 casings useable in the 410? Thanks.

Can you post a photo of the slugs in question, please?

If the bullet will drop freely through the barrel and out the choke of its own weight, you can shoot it. BUT if a hard cast bullet will not go through the choke of the shotgun barrel, you will probably bulge the barrel and may split the muzzle so that it opens up like the hood of a cobra, and the gun will actually recoil FORWARDS! Don't ask me how I know this!

After I blew the muzzle off my .410, I cut off the barrel behind the split and recrowned it, so that I had a cylinder bore .425" all the way. It shoots round pure lead .425 round balls with light charges (5 grains of Bullseye) fairly well, but high. Cowboy 200-grain .44-40 bullets keyhole from the smooth bore barrel and will barely stay on a target backer at 25 yards.

    Pics tell the story:

A .390" diameter soft lead round ball will safely go through the barrels of most full-choke .410s.

I moved your post to a better area.

I think it's best to use a shotgun style slug if you aren't going to use a sabot.
Typically, 358 boolits are used with sabots for 410 shotgun slug ammo.
here is an excellent tutorial on that.

Even if it is safe to shoot the 41 cal boolit the smoothbore barrel will not stabilize the boolit and it will thumble. 410 slugs are weight forward so they will not thumble.

.40 cases are too small for a .410 chamber. .44mag might work, as would .444marlin brass.

Thanks for the replies. I do not know how to post pictures, so no joy there. I will pass this knowledge (along with any more) to my son.

If he doesn’t want them, I might take them off your hands, or at least some of them. What do they weigh?
