Blank crimp insert.

Does anyone know if there is a blank crimp insert for sale that will fit in a Lee seater die?
If not, would anyone be willing to loan a blank crimp die for 45 Colt cases. I would be willing to pay shipping both ways, and pay a reasonable rental fee to borrow one. I'm making shotshell cartridges out of cut down 460 S&W brass, to feed in my Winchester 45 Colt AE Trapper.

Could just use an over shot card wad and then a factory crimp die to hold the wad in.

I already tried that. That works fine for loading into the revolver. Seeing as how I am using 460 S&W brass cut back to 1.600", the roll crimp on the cases is to sharp to function in the Winchester Trapper. The front of the case has to be blank crimped to feed.

Typically, a star crimper is a separate die. I am not aware of any that will fit into an existing seating die. I tried that a few decades ago and the insert was too flimsy to withstand the crimping forces.

CH 4d has all you need to make star crimps, is where I got mine.

I know that I can buy a die, or a die set. I'm only going to make 50 rounds. That's why I was willing to rent it/them rather than buy them.

Jam them onto a bottle neck sizing die a little ways

That would work, if the shellholder didnt hit the bottom of the die before the case mouth gets tapered. Also, the die sizes the case body down.

If the bottleneck sizing die is fully threaded on the exterior, simply cut off a portion of the bottom. This will allow the case to enter the bottleneck prior to the shellholder hitting the base of the die. I've done this and it works. You might want to consider different bottleneck dies, since some of the neck angles and diameters are different. Of course a mill or lathe will make cutting the die much easier.

That would work, sho-nuff. I'm very limited with tooling. Mostly just hand tools and electric tools. I did have a nice Atlas 10" lathe, with the quick change gear box. Also had a drill press and grinder. Oh yeah, a really nice man cave I built. It's all gone due to a divorce in 2016. I really enjoyed that lathe. I made a set of dies to form 45 magnum cases to 45 acp shotshell loads. I use Larry Gibsons technique to roll crimp the cases, using the funnel on the Lyman 55 powder measure. (Thank you Larry, for the tip). These cartridges function in my Winchester 94 AE Trapper. The shells hold 6.5 grains of HP-38 under 220 grains of #9 shot.
