    Seating Stem numbers

I have started to pick up 310 hand tool dies for 300 Savage, 303 Savage, 30-30, and 30-06.

The seating die for the 300 Savage and 30-06 both came with a #366 stem in them. The old Ideal quickref only lists the #366 stem for a 8mm.

I'm hoping that I really only need 3 seating stems, one for spire point, one for round nose, and one for flat tip .... what number stems should I look for:
    1) Spire Point
    2) Round nose
    3) Flat tip

    Thanks, Keith

You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who they think can do nothing for them.

It's not hard to adapt seating stems. A bit of hot glue or epoxy applied to seating stem. Press in the bullet. Let set. Remove bullet.

if you look in older ideal manuals at the 310 ref chart the mold has a seating stem that works with it. such as the 450 seating stem is used with the 225450 mold that is used in calibers from the 22hornet and 218bee through 220swift or the 414 stem is used with the 311329 and 311414 molds in calibers like 308 and 30-06. these are examples.

Thank you; now the numbers on the quick ref make more sense to me. I located a pdf showing all the old Ideal mold numbers, grain and a picture of the bullet profile. It appear the 310 seating stems were numbered with the last 3 digits of the mold number of the bullet they are associated with. The 414 stem aligns with Ideal 311414, a 150gr spire point gas-checked bullet mold. The 329 stem aligns with Ideal 311329, a 185gr Spire point,gas-checked bullet mold. The 366 stem aligns with Ideal 320366, a 176 spire point gas-checked bullet mold for the 8mm.

Lyman Third Edition Cast Bullet manual has a chart listing the top punch for most of the moulds.
Lyman Fourth Edition Cast Bullet manual has a chart listing the top punches for moulds still in production (not many!) and also top punches for moulds made by other mould makers. Seating stem numbers are the same as top punch numbers.

The site dsh1106 linked does have a nice set of instructions on how to use the 310 tool.
The list that is on there I have a copy of. It's just not complete. It leaves out many cartridges.
I have another list that has the numbers of muzzle sizer and double adjustable chambers used for the cartridges. It has 175 numbers listed, many blank numbers. It has numbers for 124 cartridges listed. The
It doesn't tell you the numbers for anything else.
Shopping on Ebay, gun shows, yard sales and such they often have numbers on the dies and other parts loose, not in original boxes. Often these numbers are not on either of the lists I have.
Is there a more complete list anywhere? it would help ID these things I find.
KeithNyst, you mentioned you fund a pdf list of mold numbers, with pics and descriptions. Do you have a link to that pdf?
