I need a bipod for ar

Been watching utube and fellas using bipod. Now I think I need one for my ar. What is an economical brand and how and what do you need to mount one. I want to mount to hand rail.

In the past I have ordered both UTG and Caldwell from Amazon, got what I felt was reasonable performance for reasonable price.

Most mount on sling swivel stud. Which works if you have the stud.

I have one on a Hipoint Carbine that I think is a Harris, bit more expensive, but it had more mounting options, including locking on to a piece of picitiny rail. Now my Hipoint carbine has a piece of rail just ahead of the foregrip, so that was a match made in heaven.

For range work I like them, but for rifles that will or might be carried in the bush I tend to leave them off. More weight, more stuff to grab and hang up. But that is me, your choices may be vastly different.

Thanks for info. Up to 10 years ago I would not have been seen having a pod on my guns but I am changing with the times. Still is alot to know that I don't know!

I am a big fan of the swivel base leg notch Harris bipods. I just got back from a prairie dog trip and my buddy was using a Caldwell copy. It was a rickety piece of junk. I loaned him one of mine.

amen! some of the copies are okay, but many are total piles of garbage.

Whatever you get, I would make sure the legs have grooves cut into them to lock into. I have one of the cheap ones with no grooves, and the lock screw will not hold.
