Broken Firing Pin

I was shooting my Marlin 336 this morning when after 8 rounds it refused to fire. I noticed a small piece of metal on my shooting bench and no evidence of any firing pin indentation on the primer.
Where is the best place to pickup a firing pin?

You should check Numrich for a replacement.

It appears that there are several different types and shapes of firing pins. Looks like I'll have to disassemble it to know which to get.
I hope there is not much if any fitting on this.

Brownell's has factory replacement ones in stock for about $25.

You'll want to take yours out and match it up to their pictures.

The old design or new will work just fine. The early design was almost a solid dowel and the newer design has been trimmed of weight with lightning cuts. The purist and bench marksman argue lock time and etc. but I have yet to tell the difference. Just be careful in bolt disassembly, lock bolt down really well in vise soft jaws/wood. Push extractor off 90 degrees (two matching flats works well), prying with hook can distort or break. Pins bottom up and out and remember to clean ID bore and away you go.
After thought- I would almost be inclined to pick up a used one or new old old stock, anything post late 2000 this old Marlin guy has little faith (Cerberus).
