    Condor Visit

A condor showed up a couple days ago along with about 25 vultures. Or the other way around as the vultures signal the condors to come and break up large carcasses they can't manage. Vultures are dainty compared to condors so they have a working relationship. The deer are plentiful and mountain lions create lots of leftovers. There was a carcass on the road 2 weeks ago. The device on Her wing is a radio transmitter.

When I lived in So Cal, I never saw a condor, even though I hiked in the Sespe Creek area where they were supposed to be. Back then there were only a handful of the birds left. Mountain lions were scarce also. Ranchers never like either of them.

Those are wonderful photos. Thanks for posting. I don't believe I've ever seen one in real life. I've only seen their name in print a lot.

Great pictures. Nothing like that on the east coast. Lots of vultures though.

You mean your lead stash didn’t kill it? Thought lead was deadly to them. Lol

In the early "70's I lived on an Avocado /lemon ranch north of Moorpark. One morning there were two condors perched atop
one of the eucalyptus trees. They're a true sight to see.Click image for larger version.

Fact: Some people are alive simply because it's illegal to kill them.

There goes the neighborhood! If any of the several endangered species that lives around here goes by, we figure the bureaucrats can't be far behind. We saw one cross our driveway a couple weeks back and we told the neighbors never to speak of it. Actually, we rather enjoy having them around including the one that the "experts" in the national park nearby say doesn't exist on the Olympic Peninsula.

We have them here too, and we see them from time to time. They re-introduced them to the Grand Canyon region several years ago. They often circle around the uplifts with the Turkey Vultures, and sometimes even with the Ravens. They are easy to spot and differentiate, they are HUGE birds.

Blame the idiots who run California and the people that voted for them, not the bird.
