I've been tossing around some ideas for making a point forming die for the .223 lr jacket round. I'd love to just order the set from BT but i just dont have the funds, but I do have an old small 5" south bend lathe made in 1938. and a cheapo mill-drill i got from the chinese hardware store. I did however, beef up the column with non-shrinking grout so it would be more ridgid. Anyway, I was thinking of making an insert with the point profile that i could actually be able to see the work coming along. then bore out some junk re-loading die and shrink fit or silver solder the insert in, or just leave it loose with a set screw.
Has anyone tried this? Is it worth a try?
