    Herters #49 lubesizer

OK, so a search didn't get me what I wanted to know, so here's yet another thread on a Herters sizer.

At an estate auction I picked up the sizer w/four dies & three top punches, along w/a Pacific C press for few dollars. The C press I'll sandblast & repaint, after that...
    The sizer though,
I've cleaned up the extra dies (the threaded type) and have removed the old lube from the reservoir, Kroil has been applied to all the necessary points, BUT the sizer die doesn't want to budge. And yes, the nut on the underside has been completely loosened. Heat has also been applied here, so before I apply to much muscle in the wrong spot, how does one normally go about removing one of these, meaning the sizing die?
The top punch I figure is frozen, so I'll let the Kroil do it's thing overnight and then we'll see what's going on with it. Oh, and that thumb screw has been loosened too.

I have two of these that were in my Dad's stuff, to be honest, I haven't looked them over that closely, but they'll need some attention before they can be used. Eventually I'll get to them. Gonna follow this thread, I really have enough Lyman sizers, but these kind of intrigue me.

Well, my (im)patience got the best of me, no surprise there. I was able to move, with the use of a brass rod, the sizing die after I removed the flat bar on the very bottom and the large diameter threaded rod. I'll call it a depth adjustment rod. I then realized that the top punch had to come out in order to remove the die. Not enough clearance. So out came the pliers and a small piece of sheet lead kept just for this purpose. Lead in the jaws of the pliers so as not to mar anything and a bit of a twist... Now I have to figure out how one puts a hollow tube of lube on the threaded rod which goes thru the reservoir cap. This rod looks to be a replacement for the dog leg type that I've seen in pics. It's more like a long bolt with a hex head so that a socket could be used to adjust it. Looks like there's a bushing at the bottom which the piece with the 'o' ring turns on. So much for the part(s) nomenclature.
    Another work in progress.

This sizer takes solid sticks, unscrew the nut and pull the rod and piston out. The hex top is the correct rod for that sizer.

    Pressman,
After looking at it again, I 'see' what you're sayin'.
So one would put the lube stick into the press & then with the reservoir cover screwed down to meet the piston (the thingy w/the 'o' ring),then screw the whole reservoir cap, rod & piston assembly into the press.
Makes sense to me! So maybe tomorrow I'll stop at the hardware store & get a replacement 'O' ring & some Evaporust. I'd like to clean up some of these smaller parts if I can, for both the Pacific & the Herters.
    Thanks.
