Looks like some sort of decanter for salad oil, wine, something that belongs on the dinner table.

And +1 for it being pewter.

I got some "pewter" dragon mugs from Hong Kong. They look "kinda" like pewter but appear to have some lead in there. Very soft and heavy. I need to send a sample to BNE.

My experience is that most pewter like items made in Hong Kong and on the mainland are a lead alloy. This has been in the form of flower vases, small dishes, the ducks some have described here with gilt or copper inlay, and the occasional pot that may have Chinese characters or the words "Hong Kong" stamped on the bottom. I've never seen anything from China stamped "pewter". The metal seems to be a lead alloy with some tin and antimony, but we're talking about Sn around 2% and Sb around 4% on the specimens I had tested, and definitely not Sn over 90%.

I've come to the conclusion that there isn't much if any pewter as we know it in either China or India, at least what's exported to the States.
