    9.3x57

last year, i got a husqvarna m46(1937) in 9.3x57. just recently gave her to my gunsmith to d&t, bend the bolt handle and a 2 position safety.

when he's done with it, i just loaded up 280gr fn gc( https://bullshop.weebly.com/-36-cali...t-bullets.html ) with 38.0gr of imr4895. the velocity is around(guesstimate) 1700-1800fps. i know i'll have to do some accuracy work, but i don't mind. if the 9.3x57 goes roughly 3" group at 100 yards then i'm done. it will be a close cover deer/black bear rifle.

    on the last picture...
the left cartridge is a 8x57 necked up to 9.3. the right cartridge is a fire formed (9.3x57)

With either the 9 or the 9.3 the piles of dead game speak a lot louder than the ballistics.

yes sir!!! you don't need 2000+fps to kill game. i use a 444 marlin(tc encore with 23" MGM barrel) and a 300gr fn gc with 2400/dacron that loafs around at 1624fps avg, it kills deer dead!!!

Repeat after me. Steel tube Weaver. 4X or less. the bolt handle almost looks low enough as it is. I like that rifle, not an ounce of fat on her.

OK I admit to being just a touch envious. Very nice rifle. You will absolutely love it and it will do what you need it to. I have a 9.3x74R in a Ruger No. 1 and like it very much. I had Tom at Accurate Molds make me his 37-285B in a single cavity brass and it does fantastic on paper. Haven't got to hunt with it yet.

Europe beat us to 358 win ballistics by about 60 years. Very popular in Sweden for moose, they call them elk. Go figure, that's what we call wapiti.

I got mine from Simpson's a couple of years ago. Haven't shot cast out of it yet, though. Very accurate with condoms with the first load I tried, 1.5" groups at 100yds.

I have been a fan of the Husky line for a long time. My first was a model 4100 lightweight carbine in 30'06 that had been lightened by removing all excess lumber from the stock, a lot of it. The rifle was weather worn but still produced very good hunting accuracy. Next came a model 1100 deluxe full size rifle 30'06. That one went to E.R. Shaw and came home a 35 Whelen. Killed my first deer with that rifle. The most recent (about 20 years ago) is a model 7000 Imperial Lightweight (carbine) 30'06 that delivers the tightest groups of any rifle I have ever owned. This last one has been in semi-retirement for a few years but will be in the woods this year. I'm really sad the factory closed down for rifle production and am always on the look-out for yet another Husky to add to the family.

Love those Huskys! I have a M-46 that loves the NOE 368-280 GC. I use 24-26 gr 5744 for 1600-1700fs or 40 IMR 4895for just under 2000 fs. I use necked up 8x57 brass without problem. In fact I have to turn the FL die hard down on the shell holder to get the bolt to close on the sized brass. I have the HP and Cup point pins, and they expand nicely at 1500-1600fs in water with my 95/2.5/2.5 alloy. The throat area in the barrel is less than perfect, but it still shoots cats really well.

Well, it's a ways from the 35 Whelen. The 9 X 71 Peterlongo would be a lot more in the same class...except it will eat the Whelen for lunch.

I'm fairly certain it was a gentleman from this site who first directed me to the 9.3 X 57 and even found a very nice one on Simpson's and sent me the link. Maybe he was just spending money vicariously.....and frankly, if that was the case I'm glad he did!!! I really like my Husky Mod. 46 in 9.3 X 57 and, it is unmucked with, no holes in the receiver rings or the side rail. I also have a nice Haenel 1899 in 9 X 57 and I'd hate to have to choose between the two cartridges. Rifles, the Haenel would have to be the choice.

I pretty much have the sister to your rifle, but chambered in 9x57 / 9mm Mauser rather than 9.3x57. It is a wonderfully light and fast handling little rifle with more than enough "oomph" to hunt any critter you'd ever want to. I anneal and then neck expand 8x57 cases to slightly over .35 calibre, and then slowly run them into a .358 Winchester FL sizing die until the bolt will JUST close on the newly formed false shoulder. Fire-form and you've got perfectly fitted brass to reload with any suitable bullet (boolit or J word). The underside of the barrel is marked that it was proofed / regulated for a typically heavy weight 286 grain bullet, so I'm trying to work up a load with my old Ideal 3589 mould which throws a suitably heavy boolit.

The best part is that I bought this rifle through an online auction and I suppose that the odd, metric calibre scared off the bidders. After all the smoke cleared, with the hammer price, the auction premium fee, and the shipping costs to get it to my door, it only cost me a bit under $200 in total! It had a small crack in the stock which was glued and repaired and at the same time the barreled action was glass bedded to the stock to snug things up a bit and to strengthen the stock to help prevent any future cracks.

I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't reached my "Expiry" date!

I've always imagined that the Lee .366" 9mm Makarov bullet would make a great plinker for 9.3mm cartridges. Have any of you tried it? I was planning to with the CZ550 9.3x62 that I had but my friend waved a Sako at me and the CZ went with him. Those Huskies are more to my liking.

I am see many people working with the 9.3x 57 Mauser I see no reason it would have any issue killing any thing in North America .
With a friend I built a 9.3X62mm Mauser, and have not run in to any thing that a .366dia. 285 Gr. cast slug at 1800 FPS would not kill , I see no reason the shorter version would not be very functional. but I do love the rifle, and what do you expect leaving to old men unattended in a machine shop.
