    Cool 6.5 x 55 Swede using NOE 266-140-FN

I have been using 17.4 grains of R7 with the NOE 266-140-FN with poor results.
My old beat up Lyman 268645 does much better with the same powder.
Any suggestions for an accurate load?

Back off to 12 gr RL7, Use a Dacron filler and work back up to 15 gr.

The Lyman is a Loverin design with a much greater bearing surface than the NOE bullet which is why at the velocity level you're shooting them in the fast twist 6.5 Swede the Lyman is more accurate.

Most 6.5 Swedes like a MAX cast boolit velocity of about 1600 to 1700 FPS.

Here's one load that won a national championship for me:
Lyman 266673 (150 grains +/-) cast at 16 Brinnell, sized 0.266", with Hornady gas check, Carnuba Red lube, 17.5 grains 5744 (no filler). Shoots a 1 MOA group with iron sights in my rifle.

    Check here - https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1010231278?pid=390007
Several other shooters find this design to be a great Swede bullet.

Some sources say this bore rider design is a rework of the older Lyman 268645. I'd stick with your Lyman bullet unless you want to go to a more modern version like the 266673.

    Good luck, garrisonjoe

The NOE 140gr. is a basic bore rider that I found the nose too big in diameter for fit and function in my rifles. The 163gr. fits better.

The Lyman 266673 casts too small, I need a .268" bullet with a .263" nose.

Take a minute and slug your chamber before buying all the molds for it.
    A deplorable that votes!

My M96 Swede likes the RCBS 140gn silhouette bullet.

I was about to give up on the NOE 266-140-FN when I decided to try 16.0 grains of Rx-7.
I was hitting the discs set at 200 yards shooting from cross sticks set on a bench.
I think this load makes the mold a keeper!

Sounds about right as 16 gr RL7 w/o a Dacron filler should put the bullet in the 1500 - 1550 fps range which drops the rpm under the RPM Threshold.

I have been using that bullet in my Norwegian Krag with great success. I found that others bullets would not chamber due to what I describe as a short throat or lead.

I learned that I needed to pay attention to RPM limit and many Lyman loads would not work in my rifle due to 1 in 7.5” rate of twist.

Anybody using IMR-4895 in 6.5x55? I'm about to get a mold, most likely the Lyman or NOE.
