About the time HI-TEK was hitting the streets here in the US, a member by the name of Piglet posted about using blue powder coat dissolved in acetone to coat. Another member by the name of TES and others adopted early, and progress in application techniques improved quickly. At least that’s the history as I remember it on this forum. There was a lot of experimenting going on at the time with coatings.

HI-TEK got first, then it was off to the races!! Powder coat and HI-TEK are the ones that stuck around, but people were trying all kinds of stuff. Engine paint, ceramic types, etc. It was an interesting time. Hell, the coatings and alternative forum didn’t even exist and all the coaters were driving all the grease users crazy, lol.

I think that Speer brought out a line of PC coated lead bullets back in maybe the 80's but discontinued them after a year or two. Not sure if the old memory is operating right though; it may have been some other company. james

Some years ago, there was Ny-clad ammunition, but I don't recall if they were available as components.

yup in the last two years the only use for my star has been sizing coated bullets I don't have a lee sizer for.

+1 Yup... only it's been more than 2 years for me... I was one of the guys who tried engine paint as soon as I read a post here that postulated its use... I don't do that anymore tho...

I used to shoot a lot of Pistol ammo. I can't say I was a pioneer. I followed piglet with the acetone, then whoever decoded bbs and dry powder were a good idea. I will never switch back for high volume pistol stuff. I still use LLA for small runs and 38 wadcuttesrs ( I may be the last man shooting them, anyway) . the whole idea was wonderful

I'm going with White Eagle, partially inspired by Hiteck as the concept is similar but the application is quite different. After that, we all here at Cast Boolits refined the process so much that Federal copied us and came out with polymer coated boolits a couple years ago. Funny, they charge as much for their ammunition loaded with boolits as their bullets. We all know PC paint is cheaper than copper.
