    Laser on a shotgun

Years ago I claimed a Tasco Rem 870 scope mount from a PIF. I finally decided to mount it to play with a laser I just got. You can still see the bead under the mount. Should I sight it in at say 50 yards with slugs or just adjust it to intersect the bead? I'm looking for advice. The little key light illuminates the bead quite well in the dark.

Thanks, neighbor. It's on my SD 870 so should be ok for non game animals like pigs? Or just Meth head burglars?

    Laser on a shotgun

Naw, you can hunt pigs with that rig, man...just wear sunglasses while you’re doing it. Just be sure to miss every once in a while just in case a wildlife officer is nearby.
10 MOA dot on a 5 MOA pig...

    I am trying to help

    Unlawful Activities

    It is unlawful to:
hunt with the aid of artificial light of any form that casts or reflects a beam of light onto or otherwise illuminates a game animal or bird; EXCEPTION: legally blind hunters, or hunters who have a documented permanent physical disability that prevents them from using traditional firearm sighting devices (Parks and Wildlife Code Sec. 62.0055- 62.0056) may use battery-powered scoping devices that project a light or dot only inside the scope, pin sight lights on archery equipment, or laser sighting devices.
Blind hunters must possess a physician’s signed statement attesting to legal blindness; and be assisted by a licensed hunter at least 13 years of age who is not legally blind. Legal blindness is defined in section 62.104 (c) of the Texas Government Code.
Hunter education and licensing requirements still apply to legally blind hunters, hunters with a documented permanent physical disability, and persons assisting blind or disabled hunters.

No worries, skeettx. I did not know laser sights were verboten for game. Now I do, thanks. But for varmints, spotlighting on private land is totally legal. It’s smart to call the Sherrif’s dispatch and tell them your location ( for when the calls come in).

Blind hunters must have a doctor’s note? I better get me one of them, with the luck I have in the woods!

TbG, I use to own a 870 in 410 that had a laser on it. I had 3 ball loads that would pattern into 3" at 30 yards and used it for raccoons , woodchucks, and other bird seed stealing varmints from my front porch. It is a useful gun to have ready to go for pests and in your case even larger stuff.
It's effective even if not shot from the shoulder !

I fired the two shots on the second bullseye from the top with the bead at 40 yds with Fed tru ball from the bench in the daylight. In the semi darkness I sort of sighted on the laser on the third bullseye. The top target was hip shooting in the dark with Aguila mini slugs(note keyholes). Much respect for you slug shooting guys- RECOIL!!!
And for grins on the bottom 3 150gr Lee fp from my 7.62x39 AR. Could barely see the bullseye.

Haha, no that piece of Sheetrock is in the truck bed. Last night I set up 4 half gallon milk jugs in a row(full of frozen water)- and mowed them down with skeet loads shooting from the hip.
    It was fun!

I'll fish them out of the trash barrel. Even with #8s, any varmint would be mopped from the looks of them.

The jugs last for a few shots with the ice unless you use a slug I imagine.

the reason blind hunter get to use a laser is so that the person helping them can see where on the target animal the blind person is holding so that they can help them make adjustments. they typically arent just wandering around blasting at noises like some of the rednecks out there. LOL

And just to add, not all legally blind people wear black glasses and walk around with a cane. I've got a great uncle who is legally blind. He can see well enough with thick glasses right in front of him. It's his peripheral vision that is completely gone. He shoots just fine.

Try only shooting Low Recoil Slugs. Read the box,,, Low Recoil Slugs are running less than 1300 fps, and are about the same as shooting #8 birdshot.. High Base Slugs are running 1600+ fps and that 300 fps is the big difference between serious pain,,, and shooting all day with just a tee shirt. The weight of the gun doesn't change but the weight of the projectile and/or velocity do.

Reloads can help too, and loading them way down will extend your shooting many years. That's why we all reload our own slugs. Lots you can do with them and the .73 caliber rifle. Nothing lives thru a slug, and we have slugs that will even kill your pickup truck!
