    6.8 SPC AR Short Stroking

A buddy of mine has a new AR in 6.8 SPC that will fire and eject empty cases fine, but wont strip a new one from the magazine. He thinks it's a problem with the gas block, however my first thought was problems with the mags. He's tried three different brands of mags, and this is all with factory ammo. I have zero experience with this cartridge in the AR, anyone have any thought/advise?

    Thanks,

    Shooter.

See if his gas block has flow adjustment set screw normally from front of block between barrel and gas tube.

If he has had the gas block off for some reason there is a good chance that he is correct. Misaligned gas block is a common issue along with leakage at the block, gas key and rings. If he takes off the gas block you can center the rear screw hole or hole in the bottom of the block where the passage was drilled to get the front to back spacing and double check the passage in the block matches up with the hole in the gas tube. Guys first inclination is to open up the gas port when that should be the last thing you try unless your port is verified to be undersized.

Sometimes too much gas pressure/will cause violent (fast) cycling and the bolt carrier will overrun the rounds in the magazine. Not as likely, but it can happen. He needs to diagnose before any permanent changes are made.
