I have this mould. I use penta pins and soft alloy (pure lead with 3-4%tin), 197grs in this combination.

Last photo is 8,9,10 and 11grs of fast powder, have velocities somewhere but it a great defensive “light” load.

    Gamsek--very nice photos and results!
    Is your mould a 2C or 4C?
Mine is a 2C and I just cast up a bunch outta 1/2WW+1%tin and 1/2 pure pb. As such, with the big round pins, they each weighed 189.5g and the whole batch was very uniform in weight. I started playing around with this design in my 329PD, Mdl 69 4-1/4", and my 629-4 Mtn Gun. Very nice performance in all; group wise with 10.0 and 11.2g of Unique. Velocities were around 1130 fps for 10.0g and 1250fps for the 11.2g.

I recently got 4cav MP 44-180, large round HP is 180grs. Its like a little brother to 432-423. I got this with my soft alloy with 8grs ( haven’t chronograph it yet) but is should be around 1150fps. your performance with round pins should be similar

What powder do you use, and what is the gun used?

It’s a S&W 629, 5” and for test with 432-423 in my first post I used Cheditte Granular Fino S (made by Vectan), which I also use for my 9mm (4.2grs for 140grs=970fps) and light loads in 357 (5.2grs for 165grs=850fps, 4.2grs give me 750fps)

I used 8grs of Maxam CSB-2 (Spanish) for recent 44-180. Haven’t chronograph it yet. Just got that mould. Have 3 more moulds from MP to play, 6cav copy of HG#503, 432-640 Devastator, 433-395 HB/SOLID WC. I mostly shoot HG#503 260grs solid with 7grs. All in 44 mag cases GFL, CBC, Murom LP primer.

Thanks for the info--but as they say over here....it's all Greek to me! I'm not familiar with the primers and powders you utilize.
I share your luck with owning a Smith 629 Classic 5". I have a Leupold 4X EER scope mounted on one of my Classic DX's and that is the one I normally use for load/accuracy development. This time I chose to use the Mdl 69, the 329PD and the 629-4 Mtn Gun because I believe that boolit is meant for what we call "close social work"!

When I read the title I wondered what the heck a 432 cu in, 423 horse power Mercury had to do with this forum. Well, nothing, as I found out.

Some days, one's mind seems to be not firing on all cylinders. Pun intended.
