Martini in 357 MAX

recently put together a small frame thick wall martini in 357Max as thats the only reamer I have ,Still have put on a execution to attach the for end and oil the wood
the barrel is a GM 20" blank ,talley sight base
made the stocks out of a walnut 2'' thick plank end and the rifle so far is just under 7 pounds(heavy wood, but nice)
I fires and ejects the 38 special and 357 mag .The 357 max just doesn't eject unless its pointed in the sky and that was no surprise .

I have one in 218 bee. I have a few various single shots and in a way like the ones that just extract the case to where I can pick it out. The martini is one of these, when hunting in grass or weeds I don't have t hunt for those cases

took it out today and zeroed it at 30 yards just in my yard ,used 38 special just because groups ok .Decided to cut the fore end back and bent the bottom of the lever .Took off the wood to finish it.Here are a couple more pics

You might want to try 357 DW cases. The length is in between the Mag and Max (1.28", 1.41", 1.59").

I have all the rifles I ever need, but I still want a small frame Martini. I'm sure you will enjoy yours.

My Martini in 357mag. Delightful rifle to shoot. Did you modify your block to take the 357max? I doubt I could get a max case in my gun, since I have to hold the lever down to even get a mag case in the chamber.

bending the back side of the extractor lower allows the block to go down lower and helps to load and extract/ eject the 357 max from my experimenting

being a Francotte,its easy to see the relationship of the parts before anything is altered ,and during the process too.......Might be better to grind a small scoop from the block just where the foul occurrs,but dont join the owners who ve gone thru the top of the block .

on this martini there is no issue inserting or extracting the cases ,just the max case is a bit longer and it will just extract unless it is pointed skyward and it will eject as the straight wall case is quite close to the extractor .38 and 357 eject with no issue

How much does it weigh? What was the twist rate you used?

the barrel is a GM 20 '' 1x16 and it weighs 6#11oz without scope

Last one I had was a 22Ackley Jet off 357 case. My gunsmith had built a lot of them in 60s and this one came back for him to sell from owners family. Had Douglas barrel and Fajen stock with monkey tail rolled into a lever.
Stock and forend were cut from a BA stock. Very nice BSA cadet from Austrailia was the donar gun. Rifle ejected very well. I've had some others and 357 is largest cal I've owned.

That's a cool rifle. I have a Martini cadet someone built into a nice varminter in .218 Bee. Love that little action.

got the 357 and 22 hornet back from blueing and finished assembling them.The hornet on top and 357 Max bottom
