I think a lot has to with the dirt & climate.

I grew some garlic from grocery store pods that sprouted on their own in the cabnit.
In the Texas black land that has so much acid in the soil-- it was almost too hot to eat.
But it did repopulate itself into a pretty big patch.

You plant the garlic in the fall, then harvest it in mid July. I have 80 heads/plants drying in the shed right now.

I'll buck the trend. I like garlic, but only like. Like it in spaghetti and on bread. Don't like it overbearing or on everything.

Just like when my wife and I married, she told me, "I like spicy food", about a month later, she determined she really don't like spicy food at all! So compaired to many here, no, I don't like garlic!

I don't actually cook anything that doesn't get a heaping spoonful of minced garlic added to it!

Nope, when I have it on food it feels like somebody kicked me in the stomach within a few minutes of eating it and then I cleans me out. If I have any on pizza I better be sitting close to the bathroom!

If I eat a piece of garlic bread I feel like I’ve been gut shot in about a half a minute. I wonder if I’m allergic to it?

If you like garlic you will use it as a spice.
If you love garlic you can eat it as a vegetable.

We were in hunting camp and my Mexican friend Val sorta admitted that his Mother made him wear a string of garlic around his neck when he was a little kid to keep him from getting rattlesnake bit......I chimed in with " Boy that really works cause you never did get rattlesnake bit did you?"

You might be. I can't eat garlic or anything in Onion family. Light dose stomach pain to heavy dose hives. Makes eating out a PIA. It's hard to detect small amounts in foods with other spices.

I’m OK with cooked onions or onions that I pickled... But raw onions will give me a stomachache and go through me just like garlic.

My wife grows "Elephant" garlic in our small, backyard garden plot. They are very large cloves with a much milder flavour. We dry them in a food dehydrator and then use them quite a bit in soups, stews, and chowders. They're great in home-made pasta meat sauce too ...

We like garlic pepper seasoning for meat. Only place we've seen it is dollar general. It's good as a rub on steak both beef and venison.

I never could grow it in the summer either . Then I discovered in Louisiana you are supposed to plant it in September, October and November for harvest in April and May .
I ain't no farmer . No wonder my June planted garlic wasn't growing .

I hope I figured something out this year !

I've planted "Hardneck" Garlic for several years, planting in Oct (usually late Oct) and harvesting in July.
Some years, I've had some failure and I may have figured out why that is. When I was talking to other growers at this year's Garlic Festival, I was told that Minnesota can have some winters that start early, if the Garlic doesn't start growing in the fall, it's likely to rot in the Spring's "freeze-thaw" cycles that we often get.

So, this year, I planted in mid September. I think planting in Mid to Late Oct was just too late for my area.
