wts: 357 mag Ruger security 6

I'm listing this for my dad.

Ruger security six 357 mag. 38 special with extra stock grips and extra 4inch barrel. And original box it came in. Asking 375.00 + shipping approx 1981 manufactur, 157 serial prefix

It's in excellent condition and minimal wear.

May add brass and ammo for the right price, no trades at this time.

There are 2 barrels to go with the frame?

    And other unmentioned parts?

SN# with a prefix of 150 or less are old style grip frame. SN# Prefix of 151 and subsequent had the same frame style until the end of production in 1987-8.

My STS Security-Six was purchased in March 1976 with a prefix of 151, it also had a 2 3/4" bbl.

In Sept. 1976 I sent it back for a change to a 6" bbl.
In those days Ruger sent back the old bbl.

I think the prefix of 157 would put that Revolver in line to be Manufactured in around 1981.

Ruger does have a SN# lookup feature on their Website that will tell you when a particular Gun was made and it's original configuration when it left the factory.

That 4" bbl peaks my curiosity. I've heard of people getting a bbl changed at the factory and then getting the old bbl back. Ruger used to do that up to about 40yrs ago.
I've never heard of someone getting a new factory fresh bbl from Ruger to change it themselves.

To My knowledge Ruger has Never sold either Barrels or Cylinders to anyone. Including Gunsmiths. They all have to be factory fitted.

Your Dad may have bought that 4"bbl at a Gun Show. As an old takeoff that was returned when the bbl was changed at the factory.
He bought the 4in barrel either off here or from a Smith a couple years ago.
