In back issues of American Rifleman Ed Harris tested these alongside his .45 ACP shot loads on which the CCI-Speer ones are based. Article I believe was in late 1970s.

I have some modern ones in aluminum cases made by CCI. I thought they were snake rounds but maybe not.
BIG OR SMALL I LIKE THEM ALL, 577 TO 22 HORNET.
The RCBS 45 ACP shotshell die sets will let you make those, a bit hard to find though (and a bit of work to make them!)
Nice!
Would it be out of line for me to ask what was the results of the comparison test?
Were the originals any good or as good as the ones that Harris made.
I make these myself and I know the ones Harris makes work very well.
I never came across any of the original yet and unfortunately missed the article and comparison.
Just a quick yes /no better or the same as...
I don't have the issue handy, but if memory serves (which can be dangerous at my age) the NRA shotshells assembled with the cut-down .410 shotcup gave denser patterns than the WW2 M12 and M15s, which were more dispersed by the rifling. The .410 shotcup is smaller than the .45 bore diameter and produces more even patterns with less "doughnut" effect. Velocity of the NRA/RCBS shotshell is also higher. IIRC the M15 shot cartridges had a velocity of about 800 fps vs. 1100 for the modern shells. The WW2 shells had to be single-loaded as they would not fit in the magazine.
