Hi all
Spent some time working up a load for ML season in Louisiana coming up Oct 21!!!
Settled on using the 50 Cal Lee REAL -320 grain out of a 1:28 twist
Durofelt wad
95 grains Pyrex RS
Bore butter on the bullet bands
1" at 50 yards...super happy with the load
I did notice that starting these puppies requires some umph. Noticed it buggering up the tip of the metplat as I use the starter and ramrod to drive in on top of the powder stack.
Didn't seem to effect accuracy (seems plenty accurate enough) but wondering if there is anything I am doing wrong or that I should try differently? Just using a standard ball seater...don't know if there is a different seater I should try.
Anyone seen accuracy difference caused by touch points of the starter/ramrod on the bullet metplat?
All in all I'm happy with the load and it is alot of fun! New to ML...tried light loads behind round ball (those are fun but not Stout enough for hunting at 20-40 grains) also tried the 'trashcan' 354 grain Minnie ball mold....came out accurate too at 50 grains but again not likely Stout enough or could be better for hunting whitetail.
ML is fun and addicting, thing kicks like a mule...these weren't even barn burner loads but an afternoon of 30-35 rounds of the 320 REALs and I was about done for the day!
