    First Season's Kill

I was doing lawn work this AM when a horse fly began harassing me. I retrieved my Crossman 397 from the patio and locked and loaded (two pumps/Crossman Premier .177 pointed pellet). Stalking back to my push mower, I spotted him/her taking a break on the grass catcher bag, presenting only a side profile target. From five feet I squeezed off a shot, neatly clipping it. I finalized the occasion with a butt stroke.
I'm so proud of myself that I have to share the experience with y'all.

    Cool.

Good shot, and I'm glad to hear ya didn't have to chase it down and stab it like Tarzan did those crocodiles.

Lol, the 397 with a couple pumps in it beats one of those “ bug a salt” guns any day!

Yeah, my bug-a-salt might not kill a horse fly---
But it would probably at least leave it with a bad limp.

One should always use enough gun. Those things are known to charge when wounded.

Yeah, and can be vicious when cornered.

But I try not to tear 'em up too bad. Like a nagua, I've heard their hides are worth a fortune.

My boss, a florist, has been known to use their carcasses on flower arrangements, so he doesn’t want them torn up!

    Good shot!

I have been shooting wasps in the backyard with my son’s “Red Ryder”. Glad it’s a repeater. I average about fifteen bb’s for every wasp shot.

Now wait a minute---bayonet first and then butt stroke if needed. Hand to hand can really be messy though. Then its trench tool time, helmet, or whatever is handy. Gotta finish the little suckers off, they are bad to come alive and charge.

A friend (chief game warden) stopped by this AM to break coffee and donuts with me. After proudly relaying to him about my feat ( four more have met a similar fate to this date), he re-educated me that hunting any critter in Kommiefornia requires a current hunting license + upland bird stamp (mine is expired as of 6/30). And non-lead ammo must be utilized. He let me off with a verbal warning.

Actually you weren't "hunting", you were defending yourself.
