Bought a new remlin 1894cb in 45 colt

I was a bad boy today. I ordered a new 5” half lug blued gp100 on friday. Well they called today and told me it was in. I went to pick it up, and got to talking to the owner. I showed him pictures of my .45c bisley with a leupold scope set up for hunting. He knows I am a reloader, and I told him 45c was probably my favorite caliber. He brought out two new marlins that he said he got a great deal on. One had real pretty wood and he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. It has a 20” octagon barrel.

I was excited because my state just passed a law that allows rifles chambered in certain straight walled pistol cartridges to be used for deer hunting. I was at my brother in laws house last weekend for a bbq. Him and his son are my hunting partners. Well, all they would talk about was deer hunting with a lever gun. Today the temptation was just too great, and it came home with me, along with the gp100. If my wife was still alive, I would be going furniture shopping this weekend.
    Sorry for the rambling post!

You need to be careful about picking up strays.

I think I got pictures to work. One is the new lever gun, and the other is my 45 colt blackhawk. Ok, I guess I need a little work on the pictures. I wasn’t expecting three.

You won't be sorry, it a heck of a deer gun/caliber. I used NOE 280 grain WFN and a stout load of 2400. Neither went twenty feet, complete pass through.Attachment 245759

I just acquired that same mold from a member here. I was wondering if they would feed in the new gun. That is good to know. I think my cartridges with that bullet are a little long. I also just got the mp 452-275 wfn hollowpoint.

It's good to hear these reports about the New Remlins.

It feeds just fine in the Marlin. I size to .454. It will not feed at all in my 1892 Winchester. I'm in the same buy, I'm hoping it will work in the '92.

Very nice, is that a stock grip? I was looking at a 4" with full lug and it had the usual rubber grip with wood inlay

Yes that is the stock grip. I have a matching one in .327 fed. This one is a .357. I also have a .357 6” full lug that I plan to send in for a conversion to .41 special. I will have the barrel cut to 4.2” and slab sided. The factory wood grips on the blued guns are functional, though not outstanding. Both had some front to back play. I shimmed them for a temporary fix, but will either add some epoxy for a more permanent fix, or get some custom grips made. First I will shoot it alot.

The 45 COLT is a excellent choice for big game at modest ranges. I have taken a few with a 310 LBT A few more with various 300g JSP and a couple with lighter jacketed bullets before I learned heavy was what I wanted.

I just borrowed a beautiful 290g Ranch Dog mold and Im hoping to make some loads that will
Preform as well as that old LBT mold. I lent it to someone and I dont remember who and its been gone now for a couple years.

I have three older Marlins and a newer Rossi PUMA I just picked up. Im worried about this Rossi as it seems to have 1:38 rifling. So may not be so friendly to my preferred heavy for caliber boolits.

    Best of luck with yours!!

If it was a .41 magnum, the GP100 would be perfect

I think the cylinder is too short for .41 mag
