    Moving moose target practise.

This is what we do @ 75 meters @ 100 meters. The moose runs 23 meters in 4,5 seconds.

I used my 45-70 325 RCBS Hi Teked @ 1900 fps ,Marlin SBL & Red Dot. Pretty good results. I started the session with a 300WM j-loads and a 6x scope, the results were not as good. I know it will get better but for 75 meters a red dot is just so fast and steady. I used to practise 100 m with a scoped 308 quite a lot,the leade gets interesting with changing distances and bullet velocities.

Hunting clubs use this for moose hunt qualification, too.

All in all a very good evening. Everyone was shooting good,we're all up to the task even now, there are many more sessions coming before the hunt.

    looks like fun!
good thing there is a substantial berm in front of the target, those low shots could cause havoc with the running gear.

    Petander,

A two headed moose?!?! How close do you live to Chernobl?

Good luck and be safe hunting this season.

That looks so fun! I shot 50 meter running boar a few times and was addicted! I have been playing with the concept of building one on my farm for decades, yes I have roun-tu-it issues!

I'd love to try that with my 38-55; it looks like great fun hunt prep.

Running boar is pretty much the same, just scaled down for 22LR. Great fun! Some folks have 10 meter air rifle ranges at home.

I fixed number typos in my op.

Why the Europeans kicked our butts in the Olympic running boar event.
Paper targets aren't your friends. They won't lie for you and they don't care if your feelings get hurt.

We group hunt moose with stopping dogs. Dog guys try to sneak close to the moose while the dog is hypnotizing it by barking. The rest of the hunters are in a "circle", ready for the scared moose to come, often fast. If you don't shoot the moose it will go to the next town and the hunt is over for the day.

Many other driving group hunts need a good moving shoot ability, too. Boar,deer...even hare and fox, although they are shotgun game.

Solo hunt I never shoot a moving animal with a rifle.

...sounds like a blast. I have drilled a running hog with bow and arrow years ago on an out of state hunt. What a rush! Got chased up a tree by it after I stuck it in the lungs. It piled up about 50 yards away after the dogs chased it off me and the tree I was hanging in.

    Talk about memorable moments!

We have wild boar invading strongly. They're not up here where I live yet but getting closer every year.

Yeah. There has been coming "invaders" over Russian border some times before, getting used to it..

In a party/drive hunt is the moose meat divided up between the participants? Just curious as i have no experience with driving game animals.

I would not shoot at a running moose unless it was running at me, we will be hunting some very large bull moose this year (I got a tag in a great area), I'll be using a big gun with cast boolits. I will only shoot a running bull if it is wounded and isn't going to stop on his own.

    Yes it is equal share.

Around year 2000 our moose population got excessive and there was a need to harvest a lot. Our club's moose team had 12 members and we had 12 tags... it went on like that for a few years... I bought a third freezer then and also started canning.

That's why we practise the leade. It's like Trap when you get it. We try to do sure lung shots, too much angle and it's a no-no. Not face- to- face either.
