    Pewter?

Would any of this be pewter. These are pictures from an online auction. So this is all the info I have. They refer to it as silver ware

Best way to tell is have them send pics of stamps on bottom. On the surface it could be.

Most of that is not. Chances are it is plated copper with the occasional trim, legs and handle in pewter.

2nd what Dieselhorses said. Sugar bowl looks like plated brass.

I have to agree with the others. Those don't look like pewter to me.

Keep in mind that to a lot of people call anything like this pewter regardless of what it is made of.

I'd guess silver or silver plate

I don't buy anything that doesn't say Pewter or ZINN (tin in german)

Hit the thrift stores, garage sales, Craig's list, Offer up (have them send you pictures of the marking that say Pewter/Zinn)

i haven't found much pewter that has a highly polished, mirror like finish, has cut out open work patterns or incised linear decoration other than lettering.

On a related note, I was out at a flea market this past weekend. I go out there occasionally, to see what there is.

Found a guy that had 3 "pewter" plates. All 3 were Armatale, all 3 were aluminum.
He didn't believe me when I told him, so I just said thanks, and moved on.

While I've seen, and own, shiny pewter, it is usually a duller grayish color. The hallmark is key though. No hallmark, then it's not pewter.

I have found unhallmarked pewter as well as polished silver like pewter, most likely rhodium plated. Rhodium is a common plating metal on high end silver pieces. It looks just like silver but it doesn't tarnish.

I went on a spree buying "pewter" on eBay.
At least 50% of it was aluminum.
That was after the sellers swore it had a stamp saying pewter on the bottom.
Now I have them send me a photo.

One of the shops near me has a few things clearly stamped "stainless steel" but their tag says "silver dish". They have a pile of steel, aluminum, pewter, and silver all marked on the high end of silver prices. I also see that Wilton garbage all over with a paper tag declaring that it's pewter. Some of it's ignorance. Some of it is people trying to pull a fast one.

Yep - you definitely have to look carefully to make sure you know what you are getting. It would be a shame to end up with a worthless pile of stainless steel...

Interestingly enough, apparently some of that Wilton aluminum alloy "garbage" has a collectors market. One man's trash is another's treasure and all that, don't you know.

Since I don't know the collectible from what is still trash, I leave the Wilton on the shelf for somebody else to scoop up. It's kinda like going to estate sales: I may unknowingly walk right by something really valuable that's a real bargain, or I might suspect it (like some of the larger unusual Wilton pieces), but since I don't have the time, patience, energy or bucks to divert from my main task of finding stuff useful to my shooting hobby, that's OK.
