    Eisenhower as a Hunter

I really liked this write up on Eisenhower as a hunter on the october 1955 issue of Guns Magazine...

    take a peek here...

I also love page 8 My Favorite Gun... clark gable and John Wayne's choices...

Wow what a walk thru time ...read every dang ad and articles ..Thanks ..had to smile at a couple of the ads that got me as a youngster ..."genuine throwing knives" ...what kid wouldn't want ...no... need throwing knives ...only to receive 3 stamped out 1/8" soft metal slightly sharpened point(only) with genuine leather handle ..(as in wrapped with part of a leather shoe lace)

Bought my first hi power rifle from Klein's of Chicago ..about 1960 ..surplus stuff must have lost some value as I bought a 303Brit Enfield ...slightly sporterized (front wood pared down) ..$19.95

Now that seems cheap but I know it took most of my take on several days of work on a hay bale crew ...likely bad remembering on my part ..But this next part is not ..until this point a 22LR is my only rifle experience .. so by my lonesome i go to an old abandon rock quarry and touch off that 303Brit ....WOW !!! ...I am at once sure that this "cannon" in my hands could sink a Mississippi river tow boat ...one shot for sure ..just fond memories ..sadly very few of those advertisers have survived the times

I am fortunate in that I live maybe ten miles from Ike's home town where his museum and presidential library are located. An amazing man for sure, true patriot. Wish we could get a presidential candidate like him again, but it'll never happen.

If you're ever though Abilene, Kansas, the Eisenhower Center is a good thing to visit.

Here is a heartwarming video about Ike and his model 21 Winchester side by side in the National Firearms Museum. That old gun tells a story!

Swear I still see that gal advertising today. And Ike looking down the barrel of his 'chief' special!
    Whatever!

I remember a clip from the old Fox Movietone News that was shown in theaters, showing Ike quail hunting.

One of the commercials in this magazine tugged at my heart strings. It was the Husqvarna ad for the various models they offered. I have always held a fondness for their rifles and still look for them at gun shows and other places. As time passes I am seeing fewer and fewer of these offered for sale.
