Swede m/1867 12,7x44R bore & groove dimensions

I've had this rifle 20+ years and got it straight from Sweden. Its one of the "sporter" or chopped m/1867 long rifles. I've put a lot of time into this one getting it clean and sharp with minimal expense. Though I've shot this rifle I've not gotten an accurate bore & land measurement. Until today.



Pin gauge shows .477" as the land diameter.



Used telescoping gauge to measure groove diamter.



Shows .499"/.500" for groove diameter.

That makes for .0115" depth of groove.

I've shot .512" cast and .500" Great Plains muzzle loading slug. In the future I'll size everything to .510" as I have a Lyman lube die in that size. For light smokeless rounds I'll use White Label beeswax-allox-carnuba BAC lube.

This is an easy cartridge to load for the rolling block once your .348 Winchester brass is expanded and annealed. There's no real good reason to have these rifles re-chambered to .50-70 Gov't. Its a toss up since .50-70 brass is available from Starline. If I had to do it over again I'd probably go for the .50-70 only because of brass availability.

Mine is all original including clearing rod. I make my cases from Bertram 450/400 seconds which have a larger rim than the 348Win.

I bought mine sight unseen from an auction and was suprised to find a prestine mirrored bore.

I've been sizing my bullets .510 for all my 12.7's and when you recover the fired slug you can tell they fit the bore plenty snug ( bit of a thin skirt at the base of the bullet ). I mostly use the LEE 450Gr but have a Accurate mould RF , it hits hard but not as accurate at longer range.

If you look you'll see the bore is off-center. That may complicate things when I shoot it from the bench
trying to zero the sights... which hasn't been installed as yet.

6 groove rifling. Barrel is dated 1875.

I have that same rifle made in 75. I use 50 alaskan brass trimmed to 42 mm. The lee boolit sized to .510
Works great and hits deer hard with the plinking load of 12.5 gr of unique
