LAM 2 O ring for plunger

What size is that O ring? Mine has worn and needs replacement as it won't seal.
I got one from an auto parts store and while the right inside diameter, it is not thick enough to seal the piston. RCBS with their great customer service is sending me one but in the mean while I would like to have one sooner.

I take the old one to a hardware store. They usually have a display where you can match it up.

I've had to get a smaller, fatter one that will stretch to the right size a time or two.

Those O-ring assortment packs cost very little,I have found my replacements that way.

I don't know about numbers though.

Look closely at this Illustrated Parts List for the "O"-ring size. It has been so long since I added that to my IPL. IDK why there are three "dimensions", but that is what it says on the Ace hardware drawer for that ring.

The hardware store would be an option as well, but RCBS has changed vendors and the new O-rings aren't quite the same as the old ones. In short, I'd telephone RCBS and ask for a complete threaded rod + plunger + O-ring assembly since the threads and plunger/piston have also varied over the years.

HF has boxes of o rings. I think 6 or more different boxes of various sizes. Get a assortment box of o rings for $5 to $10. I got a box of 225 Nitrile O rings for $5. They have bigger boxes for up to $10.

1 1/16" is the outside diameter

17/16" is the inside diameter

1/8" is the thickness of the O-ring material itself.

Take the plunger with you and find a replacement....buying an assorted pack of 50 O-rings leaves you with 49 useless O-rings .

Those cheap O-ring kits are pretty much a waste of money. I bought one and just about every ring in there is slightly undersized. I found that out the hard & messy way when I used some of them in the cylinders on a small loader on a big garden tractor. That's a low pressure system compared to "real" hydraulics, probably less than 1,000 psi. First time I put a load on it I felt like Jed Clampett, oil everywhere. Bought the necessary rings from a hydraulics shop and no more problem.

Sure is fun tearing four cylinders apart two days in a row. The rest of them are still sitting on a shelf and will remain that way until I get in "throw out the junk mode".

17/16” = 1 1/16”. The size should read 13/16”

Convert all the ⅛ fractions to sixteenths, then add the inner diameter plus two ring thicknesses to equals the overall outer diameter of the ring of 1 1/16”

I just picked up two at my local NAPA store they were a little fat in diameter but fit great.
When I asked what I owed him the guy shooed me off with his hand and said, "Get outta here."
