    Identifying lyman "M" dies question

    Good day all.

The other day while sorting through my reloading stuff I noticed my M die for 8mm is marked 32. The one I had for .303 British I was sure was marked 31, but when looking at it I see it is stamped 30R on top of the adjusting screw for the expander plug.

The plug measures .307inch and then steps to .311 like you would expect for a .30-06 or .308

Lyman's online info doesn't list a die marked 30R, only 30S and 30L and the die they list for .303 is called 31L as I expected.

My question for the forum is does anyone know what I have here? TIA

Hopefully this will help you out. It looks to me that the 30R is the plug size...30L or 30S refers to cartridge lengths.

Thank you Mr. Redhawk that link gives me the info I was searching for.

It must be 20 years since I loaded cast in a .303 I think what happened is I must have put a 30 caliber plug in the die and forgotten about it.

Forty years of casting doesn't make one smart, it makes you old.

I hear ya...I've been at it about that long too...sux getting old, huh? The other day I mixed up fast/slow burning powders in a post....I hate when I have to apologize and correct my posts.
