The very beginning of the "heeled Bullet"

I was doing some research and came across the the very beginning of heeled bullet. This took the rimfire cartridge from a ball loaded into a rimfire cartridge (I believe invented by Flobert of France circa 1847) to a heeled bullet. I thought it was interesting. So I am sharing it. Over the past 10 years we have had 3 Flobert rifles come through the shop for various repairs or corrections. Everyone who sees one of these is amazed at the design. As expected they all have been in rather worn condition. This is not to disparage the rifles, it adds character to their history.

    Interesting.

I've long believed that the heeled bullet was so popular with gunmakers because the chamber reamer was so much simpler.

A few years ago, my first attempt at reloading a DA38 Colt was a real learning and frustrating event. Admittedly, a novice, it took almost four hours to load 50 rounds. I have not done it again.

For all things heeled boolits get in touch with Bernie at Old West Molds. Molds and custom adjusted Lee crimp dies to crimp just the brass under the boolit. I've been shooting a 41Colt for years this way.

Yup Bernie is the man. His stuff is top notch. I swage heeled bullets. First powder coat then swage. Makes nice bullets.
