New to muzzleloading & have some questions.

I just got a traditions timber ridge 50 cal 1:32
Where's a good place to buy ramrods, brushes, and jags for it?
Does anyone know what this slugs out to?
I have these molds, can I use any of these in it?

    50CAL 50CAL 1 LYMAN
    50CAL P3 50CAL 1 LYMAN
    50CAL 405GR 540619BX 1 LYMAN

    50CAL HP MINI 39585 1 ???

    MINI BALL

    50CAL-250 90393 MINI 1 LEE
    50CAL-320 90396 MINI 1 LEE
    690 RB 690 RB 1 LYMAN

I was thinking about PCing the projectiles and loading them over a felt wad saturated with

2 parts paraffin, 2 parts lard/lanolin/Crisco 1 part beeswax) to help keep the barrel clean.
(I heard that PC will lube OK but won't help with powder fouling so I thought I'd use a soaked felt wad like in my 1860 army)
If pc makes the boolit to large I will get a sizing die.

I bought a pound of Pyrodex P FFFG

I would appreciate any input and recommendations,

    Grmps

1-32 will be a bullet barrel try several different styles lengths. Also unless your dead set on pyrodex you might consider giving BP a try also.

Why would you want to powdercoat a muzzleloader bullet? That's a lot of unnecessary extra work for something that will give you all negatives with absolutely no advantage over uncoated, soft lead.

I have read of many excellent experiences using Lee’s .500 pistol bullet paper patched.

Sometimes some people find better results with 2F. And some with 3F.

I second ditching Pyrodex for almost anything else, though real black is good. Pyrodex is fine if it’s all you can get or like it, but make sure to clean it promptly.

I would start with the 250 and 320 grain Lee REAL molds that you have. Basically you grease them and load them. I find they shoot a whole lot better with a lubed felt wad underneath them. Start with 70 or 80 grains of powder and work up. In my 54 cal rifle, the 380 grain REAL is basically a one hole bullet at 50 yards with 100 grains of powder.

You can try round ball with your rifle, but t he twist is too fast. Still worth a shot. Don't bother powder coating anything.
When you care enough to send the very best, send an ounce of lead.

personally i think you'd be best with the 370gr maxi ball mould from lyman.

Agreed, but since he has the REAL molds already, might as well try them.

OK I finally got around to casting some boolits with my 50 cal molds out of 3 BHN lead. this is what I got
    #1) 50CAL P3 857--- .50 x 364.6grns 1 cavity LYMAN
    #2 50 CAL ------------.50 x 360.3grns 1 cavity Thompson-Center?
    #3) 50CAL G 103-----.50 x 369.2grns 1 cavity LYMAN
    50 CAL HP------------ .50 x 335.3grns 1 cavity Thompson-Center?

I also found out why I got the timber ridge so cheap! the person who had it fired it one session then never cleaned it!!!

I had to soak it for 3 days, lock the stock in a vice to get the breach plug out. It will take a couple of days at least to get the barrel clean (after having it soak with Kroil for 2 days to get the breach plug out). I'm using Hoppes #9 Black powder bore cleaner, it that doesn't work I'll try butch's bore shine.

the breach plug will clean out but I'm getting a stainless nipple.

I've tried for 2 days to contact Traditions Firearms for a parts list and place to buy.

    No luck; goes to voicemail.
