I have some Rex 0, 1, and 2. Right now I'm working ona Tactical slug load (under 1200 fps) using Rex 1, a Lee 1 ounce Key slug, and fiber wads. If/when I get things settled in I'll share the data that I've come up with.

I'm using Rex 2 in .357 and 9mm and I am satisfied with the results. However, it does not meter well because of its shape.
I find your MAX loads a little on the low side since I load 4.6gr in 9mm (124gr FMJ) and 8gr in .357MAG (158gr jacketed SWC) and those aren't even hard kicking loads.

I'M IN NO WAY ADVISING ANYONE TO USE THESE LOADS!

BTW, this is the company website: REXPLO 21

I am using 12 grains of Rex 1 in 8X56 Hungarian with a 220 grain Lee cast, 7.62X54 Russian with a 120 grain Lee cast and 30/06 with the same 120 grain Lee cast bullet.

Does very well in the Hungarian and the 30/06. Not so much in the Russian because the bullet is too small.

Did some testing today. It was 94° with 28.48 inches of mercury barometric pressure uncorrected when I started 102° when I finished.

First test was with a Winchester Model 70 Heavy Varmint in 223 with a 1/9 twist barrel, Redfield International aperture sights front and rear.

    1st load:
Lyman 225415 55 grain gas check bullet sized to .225, wheel weights cast hot and water quenched. OAL @ 2.15 inches with the bullet jammed into the lands.
    Powder Rex1 @ 6.0 grains, Remington 6 1/2 primer, LC 05 cases.
    Average Velocity 1853, ES 45.51, SD 13.3
    Group exactly 2.00 inches.

    2nd load:
    Same Lyman 225415. Same OAL
    Powder Rex1 @ 4.0 grains, Remington 6 1/2 primer, LC05 cases.
    Average Velocity 1393, ES 72.9, SD 22.62.
    Group 2.5 inches.

3rd load: Fired from a 1903A3 2 groove barrel, original iron sights all loads are shot from LC67 cases that have been neck turned and provide light neck tension all loads are lit by a Remington 9 1/2 primer. Its 98° by now.

    10.0 grains of Rex1
120 grain Lee round nose gas check, wheel weight water quenched, sized .310
    Average Velocity 1553, ES 56.53, SD 20.51.
    Group 2.00 inches.

    4th load:
    12.0 grains of Rex1
180 grain Lee gas check, wheel weight water quenched, sized .310.
    Average Veloctiy 1417, ES 42.72, SD 11.57.
    Group 4 1/2 inches.

    5th load: 102° now.
    10.0 grains of Rex1.
    180 grain bullet above.
    Average Velocity 1276, ES 40.61, SD 11.78.
    3 inch group

I have used REX-1 for 3/4 oz 12 gauge target ammo. REX-0 is reported to be a good choice for that application also.

My only complaint with REX powders is that it has never been consistantly available.

I got a dealer circular from Grafs last week. I get these because I sent my C&R to them. They have a special on Rex powder. Buy 10 kilo(2.2 lb) and they pay the haz mat. That is about $11/lb plus shipping. I would like to try some but don't need that much and the haz mat puts smaller quantity out of reach. Too bad there aren't more near by to split a shipment.

Wish I would have seen this yesterday, Ed's Guns in Vass, NC had several big metal jugs of Rex 1 & 2 in stock. Much more tolerable price compared to what I'm used to paying for powders !!

I finally remembered to order some Rex powder when I placed an order with PVI. I wanted Rex-II, but they were out so I got III in the green can. So far I've been impressed with it; been shooting very light loads in .38 S&W and it burns reasonably clean at the very low end (probably because it's a single based powder.) You should be able to use Universal Clays or Solo-1250 or SR-7625 load data as long as you don't get stupid about it, or Unique minus about 10%.

And it measures better than Unique but not as good as 231.

    My favorite:

    45ACP

    HG#68PB - 200gn
    rex 2 - yellow - 4.9gn
    OAL 1.24

    Deadly accurate

P.s. Rex powder is a bit dirtier as other but for the price of 0.5kg N320 I get 1.5kg rex2.

Thank you for the informative thread! I have a can of Rex #2 and have been wanting to use it in .38 Special & .357 Mag. but had no recipes. Especially helpful is the Lee Auto Disk info, as that is what I use for volume pistol loading

I hate to be skeptical, but could you post some of the actual sources for the data.

I just found out that the Rex (Rexplo 21) is extinct: http://www.neurope.eu/articles/104226.php

Wish I had bought a couple of more kilos last year. I really like the stuff.

For Rex-0 the only manufacturer's data I could find is for a 12ga 1oz target load. Comparing that load with a similar load on Hodgden's www reloading site I concluded that (in a 12 ga anyway) Rex-0 loads about the same as 700-X. My application however is for 45 Colt cowboy loads.

Starting with the Hodgden minimum 700-X load weight I worked Rex-0 up to the power factor that I wanted shoot. For what it is worth and with the usual disclaimers here are some 45 Colt loads for 180g LRNFP bullets, Winchester primers, five shot statistics through my chronograph, 5.5" barrel SAA type revolver.

    American Select 5.0gr gets PF=122
    Rex-0 5.4gr gets PF=139
    700-X 5.5gr gets PF=150
    Titegroup 6.7gr gets PF=168

What a bummer.. I liked the Rex I and II, and I still have a small stock of 0, I, and II. Couldn't beat the price of it. Any time there was a group buy locally, I'd ask for a few cans of the stuff. Aw well..

May not be gone just yet. They said it was being sold and the retail business for nitrochemia was a new venture to try and make back some of those losses. If the plant does sell, it could well expand its commercial offerings in order to try and tap into that market. In the mean time, grafs and PV seem to have a little Rex 0 left but the slower ones are gone.

I used up the only REX I had ever seen a few years ago. I had two 1 kilo tin cans of REX 3 and 1one 1kilo tin can of REX 0 I'd picked up at a funshow in BUTTE MT for the princely sum of $10 a KILO. this was 1995. With no published data for pistols I started with Bullseye starting loads for the REX 0 and Green Dot starting loads for REX 3 I worked up in 0.1gr. increments until they ejected reliably from my .45 XD and High Point 995, cheapest shooting centerfire I've ever done. Little dirty but at that price it was well worth it
