    marlin 336 38-55 re-bore

Got her out to the range today and with a 375296/273gr FN GC over 32 gr of IMR 3031 in Starline long cases and Fed LRP's managed a 1" 3 shot group at 100 yards benched with a 4x Leupold.Velocity unknown at this time but it should relax moose and mule deer just fine if I get my draws. They were sized .379 as that as small a sizer as I had taking them down from .381 The groove is cut .376 1-16" but these big bullets feed fine so I guess I'm ok there.Formerly a early 1950's 30-30 half mag carbine 20" not a waffle top but pre -crossbolt safety.

That sounds like a stomping load for sure. Re bored or rebarreled? You are ready to hunt.

I just got off the phone with JES Re-bore and have made arrangements to send off my newly acquired Win 94 Canadian Centennial 30-30. It has the octagon barrel and will become a 38-55. I know that may make some collectors cringe but I'm not from Canada, the rifle is in good shape but no means a collector and with the octagon barrel I figure it should be a cowboy caliber.

Dang hot and facing the morning sun; I did better after I smoked the front sight. Then I quit before I was totally sweat- wet.....
    I love my JES 38--55.

Any idea of the velocity of that load? Looks fine as well I have 10 lbs of that so may see how it shoots as well.My Marlin didn't care for RE#7 much so far.

TBG.... nice sharp photography of a nice Winchester. I’ve got one by JES done on a Marlin Texan.

Marlin Texan? Now you're just bragging! And so would I! I'm going to get my shooting done before dawn tomorrow, then back to brush hogging

I haven't chrono'd it but my shoulder tells me it's around 13-1400 fps.
Good luck on your hunts. Go forth and poke REAL .38 CALIBER holes in said animals!

Wonder if I should try some .377 dia before ordering some in bulk? Groove is .376 and the caster doesn't make .378

Might be a tad higher as I get 1400 with 21 gr and a tuft of dacron in my 20" JES Marlin.
