I picked up 19 lbs of it 1 lb at a time when it was discontinued. LGS had 3-4 1 lb cans out every time I would visit, I would clean out what they had on the shelf, then when I came back next paycheck there would be another 3-4 lbs or so out, that went on for a couple months till I finally cleared out their stock. Haven't seen it any where else for the last 4 years or so, but I have a decent supply for cast rifle shooting.

If that was the buy where it started off as a large lot of 2400 equivalent and then I got an email saying the canisters of "2400" were sold out and all that was left were 4759 equivalent , then let's just say, I got my share.
Yeah, I got 2 or 3 of those jugs as well.

for the 19th century s/s cartridge rifles, i prefered 5744 over 4759. that was a long while ago. now i prefer black powder, which may become a political dinosaur, too, so i'm well stocked for my future.

I have a 8oz can of SR-4759 that is still in perfect condition I loaded some reduced loads for a disabled friend. Sadly, Kerry is no longer with us. Will this powder work in a .45 Colt lever rifle using 250gr LRNFP bullets? And 30-30 using 165gr LRNFP bullet? Thanks for any info.

Will work fine in the 30-30. I use 15 gr with a 170 gr bullet in my 30-30, for around 1500 fps. I have my doubts for the 45 Colt though.

I have 3 sealed bottles in the shop and not a cartridge to load with it. Had contemplated getting a 30-30, but to me, kind of seemed backwards to buy a rifle just to use up 3lbs of powder.

Yes. The 46th Lyman handbook has loads for 169 & 170 gr cast bullets in .30-30 and 240 & 250 gr J-bullets in .45 Colt.

If me, it would already be paid for, taken home and stored.

I bought a stripper clip for a SMLE once. Buddy who was with me when I bought it knew I didn't own a SMLE. Told him I was just pre-planning.

Got a nice SMLE now, he thinks I'm nuts.

    Always trying to be prepared.
