    Grip insert medallion.

I have an old 30-06 that was my Dad's, and it has the medallion missing from the center of the black cap on the end of the wrist grip..I remember the gun always being around, but I dont remember the specifics of what the medallion looked like,or if it even had it when he got it.I was wondering if any of you have any ideas for making one,or where to get one.A dime fits about right, and there is a small nail like spike in the brass cup that the medallion should go..

How does the base of a 30-06 shell fit it?....you could make a custom one with a cartridge.

It is an old sporterized Soringfield,so I don’t know if it is homemade,or boughten.I do like thw idea of a 30-06 base,it would be too small though..I will try to get a picture of what I mean.

OK...maybe you could mold a piece of colored plastic/metal to match the current diameter...then counter-sink to accept a 30-06 base. My grandfather made tie tacks out of rifle shells...he'd put a genuine real imitation diamond in the primer dimple.

    Just throwing it out there.

And yes...i like the table too.

Thanks for the advise..I once had a Model Six Remington pump that had the base of a case made in the bottom of the reciever .The factory did them that way,and used the case head that corresponded with the caliber of the rifle .Mine was in 270 Win.

Maybe someone else will come up with a better idea.

Good luck with it...sounds like a fun little project.

Another idea...check these out. See if something is the size you have...and might be something you'd be proud to display. Don't just settle for something you don't like though just cuz its the right size.

    Numrich also sells some medallions.

If you have a set of calipers, let us know what the exact size of the recess is.

It must be just a hair out of round, because I was coming up with .698"-.700",..I was getting 17.72mm,So I would say .700" is the size to buy.A dime fits the diameter nicely(just a hair tight, butI think it could be drove in),but there is an inner ring inside the cup that may preventClick image for larger version.

I thought about getting an old 1929 dime if I couldn't find something I liked,I realize saying it could be drove in was probably not the right term.I think a dime could be tapped in.I saw some nice medallions in those links, but the only ones that seem to be of the proper size are the Mercury dime one,and the Indian head penny one offered by Tombstone grips in the first link.I wouldn't pay $15 bucks for one plus an additional $15 for shipping, and also if I do end up using a dime I would want to choose the year..I have thought about making one from horn, and engraving it,but my artistic skills are not up to the task.

Thanks I buy a lot of stuff from Ebay, but never checked for a dime.I may also concider an Indian head penny in 1903,1906,or 1929 assuming they were produced in those years.According to Tombstone grips these pennies are.69"..

I just checked Ebay, and I can get a 1929 dime for cheap with free shipping,by 29 they had evidently went with the Lincoln dime, but I can get Indian head pennies in 03,or 06 for cheap as well..I will ponder which to get and place an order tommorow.

Just verify it’s a legit coin and not a reproduction medallion.
