    12 ga wax slug

I stole some #12 shot from some Rio 12 gauge shells for 38-55 shot loads.... so what to do with the hulls? I filled them with candle wax. I thought they might suffice to break up fighting bulls but my test on a steel burn barrel nixed that idea! I did hit a clay bird on the backstop at 20 yards so at least it was fun. Now back to your regular programming

I've loaded 5 some years back with canning parafin, I got 4 left. Made them for yard pest that was in my wife's flower bed. That's why I got 4 left, all I wanted to do was sting it good. It stung it to good and I had a little shovel work to do.

It's a mass thing I guess. As dumb younguns we would shoot each other with .38 special wax bullets and they smarted was all!

I've made these quite a bit. I've found they are typically quite accurate inside of 35 yards or so, then accuracy dramatically degrades. I wonder if that's when the wad was finally separating for me and skewing where they go.

I've noticed that for attempted 100 yard shots I can see the wad come off mid flight so maybe my accurate range is before that happens.

Just some thoughts, your experience will obviously vary due to how many variables are involved.

Good clean fun, they pack a real punch and are easy on the wallet.

It continued on into a kitchen trash bag about 6" into trash and scraps and smeared itself away apparently.

See, now we are thinking. Will a 209 primer propel a .735" hot glue ball?

A while back I got some wads from BPI that are a gas seal with solid shot cup. IE: just a tube with no slits. I had planned to modify them into a Flight Control Wad configuration.

filled with wax I just bet they would fly strait. Weight forward, non discarding base?

I'm pretty sure a primer will propel a wad filled with candle wax pretty far. I was mowing my range grass with some 16 ga the other day and had a mis-fire. Looked into the ejection port and there was a shell with no primer in it, a breech full of powder and an unfired primer on the shell lifter. Well, I cleaned out all of the spilled powder from the breech, pushed the primer into the bass, and loaded the shell into the chamber. Safety off, pulled the trigger, and I'll be damned if that 1 1/8 oz load of #7 LNP shot didn't go 25 yds!!!!!!!

Randy, that would probably work well! What were you thinking for a powder charge, maybe 16-18 gr. of Bullseye? That would really put the hurt on a backyard pest!

Me and Bro use to shoot each other with Power Pistons loaded backwards , crimp cut off shell. They would sting decently at 10 ft. on exposed skin.
