Colt Government 1911 9mm

I needed another 1911, and this came my way with two Colt magazines. Now, I want three more, but Colt mags are prohibitively expensive. There are lots of other makers, so I'd like feed back from other Colt 9mm owners. Are there any that have not worked well for you? I'm leery of brand specific ones, like Kimber, Ruger or Sig, though I know their quality is fine. I just want reliable, universal, stainless mags.

I have had great luck with Metalform mags.I shoot PPC so the mags get lots of use and dropped on concrete and they keep on working.

i have a few of these for my Ruger SR1911 probably 1K through them with no issue I take that back I had to adjust 3 of them had to just bend the lip so that it would drop free from the mag-well https://www.brownells.com/magazines/...prod84195.aspx

Checkmate mags. They’ll look really, really, really, really, really similar to your factory magazines.

9mm 1911 pistols can be VERY picky when it comes to magazines. As much as it hurts you should only buy one of a new magazine to test before you buy more.

Checkmate usually does make most of Colt’s magazines. That is what the “C” on the bottom denotes.

I'll beg to differ on the Wilson 9mm mags. I bought (3) 1st Gen mags and it was difficult to load past 6-8 rounds without feeding malfunctions. It took a long time for them to break in to the point I switched to Metalform Springfield style 9 rd mags and all problems disappeared.

Chip McCormick mags are the ones I use in my .45's. A bit less expensive than the Wilson's and work just as well for me.

Another vote for Checkmate. I recently got a Springfield RO 9mm and decided to get a couple more mags and I read somewhere that the originals were Checkmate. Both the two original mags and the two Checkmates have been flawless in 600 rounds so far.

I run the Older Springfield mags in my Springfield 1911 9mm they run flawlessly or they would not be carried.

I have 4 different makes of 1911s in 9mm and have mags from Wilson,Checkmate,Metal Form,Ruger,Tripp and they all function flawlessly with cast or jacketed. I suspect Checkmate makes Ruger mags.

Checkmate does make the Ruger mags (for 9mm for sure: I called them to find out how to disassemble). I have 4 for my OM SR1911 & they are great. If I add more mags, they'll be checkmates.

If I might add some mag are harder to load than others,Ruger mags can be hard to load. I have 2 Colt mags that are easy and the Tripp 10 rounder are also easier to load. I forgot the Colt mags on my list.
